Black Forest Smoothie // Smoothie foresta nera

Monday, June 05, 2017

Black forest cake, or as Germans called it, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, is my favourite cake. I love it so much, my mother has been making it for my birthday since I was 15. I'm 23 now, and that's still the tradition. That said, black forest cake isn't the only black forest dessert my mother has made during the past 8 years. There have also been black forest cupcakes and black forest crêpes.

And now I'm bringing to you a black forest smoothie because the cake I had two months ago wasn't enough. And also because cherries are so beautiful and tasty right now, it would be a crime not using them to create delicious recipes.

Of course, this smoothie is not like a slice of the cake, but it's by far the healthiest version of it. Sure, it doesn't have any whipped cream, but there's plenty of cherries and chocolate. It's creamy, thick and loaded with antioxidants. And it makes for a perfect breakfast or snack.

INGREDIENTS
1 serving
  • 100 g (1 cup) of pitted cherries, fresh or frozen
  • 1 small banana, cut into pieces and frozen
  • 7 g (1 tablespoon) of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 10 g (1 tablespoon) chia seeds
  • 240 ml (1 cup) plant based milk
  • Dark chocolate and cherry, to serve

INSTRUCTIONS
  • Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Top with chopped dark chocolate and a fresh cherry.

NOTES
  • You can make this smoothie the night before as well. In that case, the smoothie will get thicker because of the chia seeds.

INGREDIENTI
1 porzione
  • 100 g di ciliegie denocciolate, fresche o congelate
  • 1 banana piccola, tagliata a pezzi e congelata
  • 7 g di cacao amaro in polvere
  • 10 g di semi di chia
  • 240 ml di latte vegetale
  • Cioccolato fondente e ciliegia, per servire

PROCEDIMENTO
